Zakat on Gold
Zakat on Gold is one of the most important figures of Islam. Muslims give Zakat to purify their wealth and to help poor people, Zakat on gold is considered for cleanliness, purity, blessings, growth in wealth, and praise for Muslims. As a reward for giving Zakat, Allah promised to increase your wealth and you can get blessings in life with your family for helping needy people. Zakat on gold is 2.5% of the value of the Gold that you own.
If a person has gold jewelry that they intend to use do they have to
Pay Zakat on gold?
Regarding a heart on gold and silver jewelry, if a person uses it, the difference is that one group of Salah says that ‘’Zakat on gold should be given’’, while the other group of scholars says that ‘’Zakat on gold should not be given’’.
Zakat on Gold According to Religion
According to Hazrat Asma bint e Abu Bakr, used to put jewelry on her children on her daughters and the jewelry was more than fifty thousand dinars of gold but she never paid Zakat on gold. However, she wishes to pay Zakat for gold.
Zakat on Gold: Condition that makes it an Obligation
It is compulsory for every Muslim irrespective of whether it’s a man or a woman whether adult or minor whether sane or insane as long as he is a free citizen and he has surplus wealth or savings that has reached the Nisaab level or above it. He has that wealth or surplus amount of savings for one complete Hijri (year) or lunar year then Zakat on gold becomes compulsory for that particular Muslim and most of the time in most cases it is 2.5%.
Zakat on Gold: Conditions that are required
- A person should be a Muslim. Irrespective of whether male or female, young or old, sane, or insane doesn’t matter, he should have to pay Zakat.
- He should be a free citizen.
- He should be a Saheb-e-Nisaab which means ‘’he should be the soul owner of that surplus wealth’’.
Above the basic requirement whatever savings he has, whatever surplus he has got he should be the sole owner, it should not belong to somebody else and it should be with him for one complete lunar year or Hijri year as mentioned in the Hadith of
Tirmidhi Hadith no. 631 our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that
“Zakat is payable on the property but natural which is surplus on the wealth which a person possesses and has with him for one year.”
Zakat on Gold: It should be halal.
The last criterion is that Zakat on Gold is paid from lawful earnings, it should be from Halaal earnings. As our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, its mentioned in
Sunan Nasai (Book of Zakat) Hadith no. 2525 where the beloved Prophet said that
“Prayer without cleanliness is not accepted. Same Zakat without lawful earnings is not accepted.”
So the Zakat that you give should be from lawful earnings that is the requirement.
And if it’s a minor or an insane person who can’t pay Zakat then the guardian of the wealth should pay Zakat on gold, on behalf of that insane or minor person on his wealth. Zakat is referred to as arms to the poor and needy or charity.
Zakat on gold: In the name of Allah.
Allah says, ‘’Who spends in the name of Allah, is like a seed’’. The example shows how important it is to pay Zakat for gold and how it will grow your wealth.
The percentage is 2.5%, Right? Let’s imagine, that if you eat an apple, you will eat 97% of it. The remaining 3 present is seed. What if you put back that seed into the soil and it grows again and makes a tree out of it? And now you have thousands of apples out of that one apple.
Zakat is the same example, if you pay 2.5% of Zakat on gold it will grow a hundred times for you.
Conclusion
In conclusion, paying the percentage of Zakat on gold is compulsory for all human beings and it will benefit you, as it is promised by Allah Almighty and his prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).
